"Rueben Pantier"

He involves himself with Dora Williams in his past andgets in a lot of trouble. He left Spoon River because of many troubles and ties he had there allhis life. Rueben is a trouble maker, and alcoholic who loves his old teacher Emily Sparks. Atone point in his life, she is a Catholic nun who had taught the young Reuben in his earlier life.He is a trouble maker all his life since his early years. His mother and father both hateeach other and always fight around him. He lives in that environment and turns into a bad manin his life. It says in his poem that he actually got in trouble in something with Dora Williams. Hehas become a trouble maker because of his parents and the environment that he lives in hisearly years.Reuben is a terrible alcoholic for most of his life. He probably starts to drink to try andget rid of all the pain he suffers. His parents, childhood, and trouble making ways were a bigpain that he suffers. He talks in his poem that he has had and tasted a lot of wine and liquor inhis life. He is a big alcoholic in his life because of all the pain he endures from his childhood.He probably met Emily Sparks in his childhood or his teen years. She is a Catholic nunbecause of many facts that her poem tells like the “Beauty of Christ” and other things. Sheteaches Reuben and a relationship forms because she is so loving and caring with him. She isthe love in his hard life that he never had, so he loves her a lot. She was probably like the lovingand caring mother he never had.
In the end, Reuben had a hard life with no love and mostly criminal acts. He becomes a troublemaker because his parents and environments in his early life chang him to become acriminal. He became an alcoholic so that he could ease all the sadness and pain that he had toendure. He loves Emily Sparks so much because she was like his loving mother he never had.Reuben was never a bad man, but his past changed him to become all those things and to love
